SPF, DKIM and DMARC monitoring

One row, in depth: what each tool does, the verified numbers, and who each suits.

Woodpecker details read from its pricing, home, features, integrations, agency and help centre pages on 21 October 2026.

Warmerly

SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX every 6 hours, each finding with a fix

Woodpecker

Domain audit for SPF and DKIM with a domain age report; DMARC not mentioned

The short answer

SPF, DKIM and DMARC monitoring, in one look.

Warmerly checks SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX every 6 hours, judges each on quality, and gives a fix with every finding. Woodpecker's domain audit checks SPF, DKIM and domain age, runs when you connect a mailbox and again only when you press Refresh, and by its own page does not check DMARC or blocklists. Woodpecker is ahead on one thing: a domain age report, which Warmerly does not have.

What each check looks at

Warmerly judges quality, not only whether a record exists, and writes a fix for each finding.

Woodpecker says domains and mailboxes it sells come with SPF, DKIM and DMARC pre-configured. A known limit on Warmerly's side: DKIM is found by trying common selector names, so a provider with another selector can read as no signature found until you enter it. Read 21 October 2026.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

Records are swept every 6 hours, each is judged on quality, and each finding comes with a fix and, for SPF and DMARC, the record to paste. Blocklists and free DMARC report monitoring sit in the same place. The check is honest about what it could not read: a check that failed to run shows as unknown, never as a pass.

01

More than 'does the record exist'

SPF is checked for its ending, for the limit of 10 DNS lookups and for broken terms. DKIM is checked for key length (1024 bits or shorter is flagged) and the t=y test flag. DMARC is checked for p=, sp=, pct= and rua=. MX is checked for presence.

02

Every 6 hours, or on demand

The sweep runs every 6 hours across every mailbox that is not dead or paused, and the Health tab has a Re-check now option.

03

A written finding with a fix

Each finding has a title, an explanation and a fix. Where it can, the card shows the record to paste.

04

Blocklists and DMARC reports

Warmerly queries 6 domain and 10 IP blocklists. Free DMARC report monitoring covers up to 10 domains per workspace.

05

A known limit

DKIM is found by trying common selector names plus any you set, so a provider with another selector can read as no signature found until you enter it.

06

The record to paste

Under an SPF or DMARC check that is not passing, the card shows the exact record: type, host, value and a copy button. SPF is suggested only for Google and Microsoft mailboxes, merged into the record already published so there stays one SPF record per domain. A DMARC suggestion is a monitor-only p=none when none exists. Nothing is shown on a provider-managed domain or under a passing check.

07

DMARC reports, read for you

You point your DMARC rua at a Warmerly address and Warmerly reads the daily aggregate reports mailbox providers send, showing who sends as your domain and whether it passes. A domain counts as verified when its published rua names that address, which proves control. Reports are fetched every 30 minutes and kept for 90 days. It is free for up to 10 domains per workspace.

08

Where Warmerly is behind

We found no domain age report in the DNS code or the domain health card. Woodpecker's audit has one. The IP blocklist check uses the mailbox's configured submission server, so for large providers it is skipped rather than reported against an address you do not own.

How Woodpecker does it

Woodpecker, in detail.

A domain audit is included on all plans and checks SPF, DKIM and domain age for each connected mailbox. By its own page it runs on connecting and then only when you press Refresh, and it does not check DMARC or blocklists. The home page says bought domains arrive with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up, and the features page lists a free Deliverability Monitor.

01

Domain audit

The features page says the domain audit checks SPF and DKIM settings and gives a domain age report. No figures or schedule are given.

02

Pre-configured on bought domains

The home page says domains and mailboxes come with SPF, DKIM and DMARC pre-configured.

03

An SPF checker tool

A free SPF checker is listed among its resources. DKIM and DMARC checkers are not mentioned on the pages we read.

04

What the audit page says it checks

The audit shows three rows per mailbox. SPF says which servers may send as your domain. DKIM is a cryptographic signature on the message. Domain age is green when the domain is older than 3 months and orange when younger, with a warning that sending too soon risks burning it. SPF and DKIM use green for valid, red for needs updating and a minus for temporary.

05

What the audit page says it does not check

The page says its report does not check DMARC and that DMARC will not work if SPF and DKIM are both missing. It recommends adding DMARC about 48 hours after SPF and DKIM, starting at p=none. It lists blocklist status, reputation score and bounce history as outside the audit and points to other tools such as MXToolbox, Cisco Talos and Google Postmaster Tools.

woodpecker.co/domain-reputation · read 22 October 2026

06

When it runs

The page says that when you connect a mailbox the check runs by itself on the domain it sends from, and that nothing re-checks on its own. You press Refresh after a DNS change or DKIM rotation. Results sit in the connection panel and under Settings, Accounts, your mailbox, Domain Check-up.

woodpecker.co/domain-reputation · read 22 October 2026

07

Deliverability Monitor

The features page lists a Deliverability Monitor as free for all users, said to help you spot upcoming deliverability problems at one glance. It does not say whether it reads DNS records.

What Woodpecker does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • Alerts when a record breaks after the audit has run
  • Fixes or a record to paste for a failing check
  • A DMARC report reader
  • A DKIM key length check, or a check on SPF lookup count or ending
  • Whether the Deliverability Monitor reads DNS records

Where the sources disagree

We report each version rather than pick one.

  • Woodpecker's home page says it supports DMARC, and that domains come with DMARC pre-configured, while its domain audit page says its report does not check DMARC. We read these as different things: setting DMARC up on bought domains, and auditing it afterwards.
  • Woodpecker's features page lists the domain audit and a free Deliverability Monitor, and its audit page says nothing re-checks on its own. We did not find whether the monitor re-reads DNS, so we do not assume it does.

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

Monitoring, not a one-off check

A sweep every 6 hours catches a record that breaks after launch. Woodpecker's own page says nothing re-checks on its own, so a record changed by a colleague or a host after day one stays unseen until someone presses Refresh.

2

Ask about DMARC

If you rely on DMARC reports, Woodpecker's audit page says its report does not check DMARC. Warmerly reads the reports themselves for up to 10 domains.

Who it suits

Pick the one that fits.

Warmerly

Warmerly is the better fit if

  • You want records re-checked every 6 hours with a fix for each problem
  • You want blocklist checks and DMARC reports in the same place
  • You want to see the exact record to publish for SPF and DMARC
Woodpecker

Woodpecker is the better fit if

  • You buy domains through Woodpecker, which says they arrive configured
  • An SPF and DKIM check plus a domain age report is enough
  • You want a signal on how old a new domain is before you send
