A tick means the check is shown. A dash means we found no such check on the pages we read, which is not proof it does not exist.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

A deeper check than does the record exist, run every 6 hours, with the record to paste where it can.

01

More than does the record exist

SPF is checked for its ending, the limit of 10 DNS lookups and broken terms. DKIM is checked for key length and the t=y test flag. DMARC is checked for p=, sp=, pct= and rua=. MX is checked for presence.

02

Every 6 hours

The DNS sweep runs every 6 hours across every mailbox that is not dead or paused, and the Health tab has a Re-check now option.

03

A written finding with a fix

Each finding has a title, an explanation and a fix. Where it can, the card shows the record to paste.

04

Blocklists and DMARC reports

Warmerly queries 6 domain and 10 IP blocklists. Free DMARC report monitoring covers up to 10 domains per workspace.

05

Where Warmerly is behind

QuickMail says it checks 96 blacklists daily, a larger list than Warmerly's 16 zones.

06

A failed lookup is not a listing

Blocklists answer a refused query with codes that look like listings. Warmerly classifies each zone's codes itself, so a refusal shows as unknown and never as listed. An unknown check is never shown green.

07

Coverage is shown, not just status

A result reads as clean on a number of lists, so clean on 13 and clean on the 3 that answered while 10 refused are not the same row. A partial answer shows amber with the count.

08

The 16 lists are named

Domain zones are Spamhaus DBL, SURBL, URIBL, NordSpam DBL, Spam Eating Monkey URI and s5h. IP zones are Spamhaus ZEN, SpamCop, Barracuda, PSBL, Mailspike, NordSpam, Spam Eating Monkey, Lashback UBL, DroneBL and GBUdb Truncate.

09

The record is merged, not replaced

Under a failing SPF chip the card shows the exact record to publish, merged into the SPF already published so old terms stay and the provider is added before the all term. A missing DMARC record is suggested as monitor-only, p=none.

What QuickMail does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • How often the SPF and DKIM tests run
  • Which 96 blacklists are checked
  • A per-finding fix in the monitor

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

A longer list is not a deeper check

QuickMail names 96 blacklists, against Warmerly's 16 zones. Warmerly's records checks go further, and tell you how to fix each finding.

2

DMARC matters now

Google and others ask bulk senders for a DMARC record. Warmerly checks yours, and QuickMail's monitor columns do not list it.

3

If QuickMail sets up your inboxes

Records are configured for you on inboxes bought there, so there is less to check yourself.

4

Both advise the same start

QuickMail's guide and Warmerly's suggestion both start DMARC at p=none, so you can read reports before enforcing. Warmerly reads reports for you at no charge for up to 10 domains, on a dmarc address it hosts.

5

Clean should mean it was checked

A blocklist check that quietly failed looks the same as a clean one unless the tool says otherwise. Warmerly shows how many lists answered. QuickMail does not say how its 96 are reported when one cannot be reached.
