AI email writing

Mailshake details read from its pricing page, home page, feature pages and help centre on 21 October 2026.

Mailshake

AI email writing from Starter: three variations, spintax and follow-ups; no limit stated

The short answer

AI email writing, in one look.

Warmerly's AI runs on credits and writes one opener per prospect, while Mailshake's SHAKEspeare drafts whole emails on every listed plan with no stated limit, so Mailshake is ahead here. Mailshake lists AI email writing with SHAKEspeare on every listed plan: three variations per request, spintax, a one-click rewrite and follow-ups written from your first email. Its pages state no usage limit. Warmerly's AI runs on credits: none on Free, 100 a month on Starter, 500 on Growth and 2,500 on Agency, and one credit pays for one opener written for one prospect. A person chooses what to send on both. On stated limits and on full-email drafting, Mailshake is ahead. Last checked 22 October 2026.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

Warmerly's AI writes one thing, an opening line per prospect, and charges one credit for each. The rest of the email stays in your words. Credits reset on the 1st, and extra blocks are only bought when you press a button.

01

Credits by plan

AI credits are 0 on Free, 100 a month on Starter, 500 on Growth and 2,500 a month on Agency.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

02

The AI opener

A campaign can use an AI opener written for each prospect. It needs a campaign brief before launch, and Start makes a real test call to the AI model.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

03

Extra credits are never automatic

Extra blocks can be bought with credits, never charged automatically.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

04

Where Warmerly is behind

Warmerly's AI is metered by credits, and Mailshake's pages state no cap.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

05

One credit per opener

Writing an opener costs 1 AI credit. The credit is taken when the opener is generated and handed back if nothing usable is produced.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

06

Your body, its first line

The opener is 1 to 2 sentences under 300 characters, with no greeting and no call to action. You keep your own body and ask. The token {{ai_opener}} in the template switches it on.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

07

It needs a brief and a website summary

No campaign brief means no opener and no credit charged. No readable website summary for the lead means the same. The doc puts unreadable sites at roughly 5% of a typical list.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

08

It fails closed

If an opener cannot be made, the email does not send, because a blank first line is worse than a delayed message. A result that still has a fill-in marker such as [Tool Name] is discarded and the credit refunded.

Warmerly product, checked 21 October 2026

09

A/B variants are written by you

An email step can hold up to 4 subject and body copies. A winner is chosen on replies first and opens only as a fallback, once every variant has reached the minimum sample size. We found no feature that asks AI to write the variants.

Credit packs

One-off packs: 450 credits for $25, 1,300 for $65 and 4,000 for $169. Bought credits do not expire while the workspace exists.

How Mailshake does it

Mailshake, in detail.

An AI writer built into the sequence editor and the plan cards, covering drafting, rewriting, spintax and variations, with no stated cap and no stated review step.

01

On the plan cards

Starter lists AI email writing with SHAKEspeare and auto-generated email copy in under a minute, and the other two plans include everything in Starter.

02

What it writes

The AI writer page says it writes 3 email variations, writes spintax variations and creates follow-up emails from your original message.

03

Free with every account

The heading says Free with Every Mailshake Account, while the body says it is included when you automate your cold outreach.

04

You pick the draft

The page says to select the one you like best and add it to your campaign. It does not say whether review is required.

05

A one-click rewrite

The AI writer page lists AI Re:Write, which it says rewrites your emails to be clearer, more engaging and professional with one click.

06

Spintax in two clicks

The page says you select the text you want to spin and the AI writes variations, and presents this as a way to improve deliverability. It gives no evidence for that claim.

07

Variations across a sequence

The page says you write the emails for Segment A and the AI creates additional variations for all the emails in the sequence, to A/B test faster. A/B Testing is also listed on the Starter card.

08

A claim about its training

The page says SHAKEspeare is powered by intel from thousands of cold email campaigns, so its copy is proven to perform. That is its own statement, and we could not check it.

Free tools outside the app

The site footer links a Cold Email Generator and an AI Rewrite Email tool under Free Tools, and the Features menu lists an AI Sales Coach. We did not read those pages.

What Mailshake does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • Usage caps or generation quotas
  • Language support
  • Whether a person must review before sending
  • What data the AI uses about each prospect
  • Whether it writes a per-prospect opening line
  • What the AI Sales Coach does
  • Whether generated copy is checked for unfilled placeholders
  • Which AI model sits behind SHAKEspeare

Where the sources disagree

We report each version rather than pick one.

  • Mailshake's AI page heading says Free with Every Mailshake Account, while the body ties it to automating your outreach.
  • Mailshake's AI writer page says monthly plans start at just $59 for email outreach, while its pricing page lists Starter at $29 and Email Outreach at $49.
  • The AI page promises copy proven to perform, but no results or sample are shown on the pages we read.

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

Count how much you generate

If you write a lot of copy with AI, 100 credits a month on Starter may run out. Mailshake's pages state no limit, so ask what applies.

2

Read before you send

On either tool, read AI copy before it goes to a prospect.

3

A 2,500 lead list on Starter

One opener per lead means 2,500 credits. Starter includes 100 a month, so 2,400 more are needed. Two 1,300 packs give 2,600 credits for $130. Leads with no readable website summary are not charged. Growth's 500 a month would cover a fifth of the list inside the month.

4

What the price gap buys

Mailshake Starter is $29 a month for 1 email address and 1,500 sends. Warmerly Starter is $19 for 5 mailboxes with 100 AI credits. That is $10 a month apart, $120 over a year, or $6 a month and $72 a year against Mailshake's $25 Yearly price. The plans differ in more than AI, so treat it as a price gap only.

5

Drafting versus personalising

If your problem is a blank page, Mailshake's writer drafts whole emails, three at a time. If your problem is that a template reads like a template, Warmerly's opener changes only the first line for each prospect. They solve different jobs, and a team could use either alongside the other's sending.

6

Filling variant slots

Mailshake's AI returns 3 variations per request. A Warmerly step accepts up to 4 copies, so one three-variation draft pasted from any source fills 3 of the 4 slots, leaving 1 for a control.

Who it suits

Pick the one that fits.

Warmerly

Warmerly is the better fit if

  • You want a per-prospect AI opener with a campaign brief and a clear credit count
  • You use AI lightly and like knowing the limit
  • You want each prospect's first line written from their own website, with the credit cost visible
  • You want a failed AI line to hold the email back rather than send it blank
  • You want to buy extra AI capacity in packs with no automatic charge
Mailshake

Mailshake is the better fit if

  • You want AI writing included on every listed plan with no stated cap
  • You want spintax variations written for you
  • You want whole emails and follow-ups drafted for you, not only an opening line
  • You want spintax variations generated across a sequence
  • You would rather not count credits at all
