SPF/DKIM/DMARC monitoring

One row, in depth: what each tool does, the verified numbers, and who each suits.

Instantly details read from its pricing and help pages on 15 and 17 October 2026.

Warmerly

Every 6 hours, with plain-words fixes

On-demand Test Domain Setup check (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC); authentication checks also in the Inbox Placement add-on

The short answer

SPF, DKIM and DMARC monitoring, in one look.

Warmerly checks SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX for every active mailbox on a schedule (every six hours by default, not once a day), explains each problem in plain words with a suggested fix, and alerts you when a hard failure appears or persists. Instantly gives you a 'Test domain setup' button on the Email Accounts dashboard that checks MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC when you press it. Instantly's Inbox Placement add-on also looks at authentication as part of its tests, and its Deliverability AI Agent (Hyper Growth and above) reviews DNS health continuously. Last checked 19 October 2026.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

Scheduled checks of SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX for each connected mailbox, with a written finding and fix for each problem, and an alert when a hard failure appears or persists.

01

What is checked, beyond 'does the record exist'

SPF is checked for its ending (-all, ~all, ?all or +all), for the 10-lookup limit counted through include and redirect, and for broken terms such as an IPv6 address after ip4:. DKIM is checked for key length and for the t=y test-mode flag. DMARC is checked for p=, sp=, pct= and whether rua= is set. MX is checked for presence, since a domain that cannot receive mail is a spam signal and warmup needs replies.

02

How often it runs

The records sweep runs every six hours by default (the interval can be overridden by an environment setting) across every mailbox that is not dead or paused, excluding demo and deleted workspaces. The mailbox's Health tab has a 'Re-check now' option. Blocklist checks (six domain lists, ten IP lists, counted from the code) run on their own six-hourly sweep, and a manual re-check is limited to once every six hours.

03

Written findings with a fix

Each finding has a title, an explanation and a fix. For example, 'No SPF record' says to add a TXT record starting v=spf1 that lists your email provider; 'DKIM is still in test mode' says to remove t=y once signing is confirmed; 'DMARC is monitor-only' says to move to quarantine and then reject once reports show only your own servers passing. Advisories such as p=none are shown but are never red.

04

The exact record to paste, in some cases

Under a failing SPF or DMARC chip the card can show the record itself (type, host, value, copy button). SPF is suggested only for Google and Microsoft mailboxes, merged into the SPF record that is published now, and not when the record uses redirect= or already lists the provider. DMARC is a monitor-only p=none record when none exists. Nothing is suggested on provider-managed domains or under a passing chip. For DKIM the fix text points you to your provider's record; Warmerly does not generate DKIM values for third-party mailboxes.

05

Alerts only for real failures

A hard failure raises a 'DNS changed' alert with a 24-hour cooldown, and it keeps alerting while the failure persists, not only when the status changes. When the failure is gone the standing alert is withdrawn. Quality advisories never alert, because most healthy domains publish p=none and would otherwise be warned about something unchanged. Free-provider domains such as gmail.com are not alerted on, since the customer does not control those records.

06

It will say 'unknown' rather than 'fine'

A check that could not run is shown as unknown, never green, and unknown outranks a warning in the overall verdict. For Gmail and Outlook mailboxes the records belong to the provider and Warmerly's reading of DKIM is unreliable, so the card says 'nothing to set up' instead of showing failures. A known limit: DKIM is looked up by trying a list of common selector names plus any selector you set on the mailbox, so a provider using a selector outside that list can read as 'no DKIM signature found' until you enter it.

07

Checked again before a campaign launches

The campaign pre-launch checklist raises a warning when a sending mailbox's DNS check came back warn or fail, or when more than five senders share one domain. It is a warning you can acknowledge, not a block, and a mailbox whose DNS has not been checked yet is not counted as failing. Separately, Warmerly offers free DMARC report collection: you point your DMARC rua address at a Warmerly address and it shows who sends as your domain and whether they pass (up to 10 domains per workspace).

How Instantly does it

Instantly, in detail.

An on-demand 'Test domain setup' check on the Email Accounts dashboard covering MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC, plus authentication checks inside the paid Inbox Placement add-on.

01

Test domain setup, run by you

On the Email Accounts dashboard, 'Test domain setup' verifies that DNS records are configured correctly. Instantly describes four records: MX (needed to receive replies), SPF (which servers may send for you), DKIM (a signature that prevents spoofing) and DMARC (authenticates email and signals legitimacy to receivers). The article describes the check as something you click.

02

Where Instantly tells you to use it

Step 1 of the pre-launch checklist is to click 'Test domain setup' and verify all records show as configured. The low-health-score guidance and the account-readiness guidance send you to the same button. The deliverability guide says Instantly 'helps check your authentication after you connect an email account and flags anything that's missing or misconfigured', then repeats the same instruction to run the test.

03

Fixing a failure is a separate guide

Instantly's DNS guide covers MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and domain forwarding in general terms: get the SPF and DKIM values from your email provider and add them as TXT records at your domain host, and add DMARC as a TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain.com. Records for Done-For-You and pre-warmed domains bought from Instantly are configured by Instantly.

What the Inbox Placement add-on adds

Instantly says the Inbox Placement feature checks authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), watches your IPs and domains against 94 blacklists, scores the email content for spam triggers, and tests inbox versus spam across Gmail and Microsoft. Plans overview: Growth Inbox Placement is $47 a month for unlimited one-time tests, and Hypergrowth Inbox Placement is $97 a month for unlimited one-time and automated (recurring) tests. Automated tests can send alerts and trigger actions such as pausing a mailbox when placement falls below a set percentage.

A continuous reviewer on higher plans

The Deliverability AI Agent continuously reviews DNS health, blocklists, warm-up scores, bounce rates, provider balance, campaign copy and abuse complaints, and shows what is affected and what to fix first. Instantly lists it as available on Hyper Growth and above Outbound plans, and a new run happens automatically after 24 hours.

What Instantly does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • Searched help.instantly.ai for 'DNS', 'Test Domain Setup' and 'deliverability AI agent' and read the dashboard, pre-launch, deliverability guide, DNS setup and agent articles: found no statement that the basic Test domain setup check runs on a schedule or alerts you by itself, and no description of per-record quality checks (SPF lookup count, DKIM key length, DMARC policy strength).
  • Searched the same pages for suggested record values shown inside the Test domain setup result: found no statement of one; the DNS guide tells you to get values from your email provider.

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

Our reading: scheduled checks catch changes you did not make

A record can break after a domain move, a provider change or a DNS tidy-up. A check that runs by itself every six hours will notice that; a button you press only tells you about the moment you pressed it.

2

Our reading: Instantly's button is fine for setup day

Instantly's pre-launch checklist uses the button as step one. For a handful of domains you set up once, that may be all you need, and Instantly's wider monitoring is available if you pay for Hyper Growth or the Inbox Placement add-on.

3

Our reading: the fix text is the difference

Warmerly says what is wrong in a sentence and what to change, and for SPF and DMARC can show the record. Instantly's published pages say whether the records are configured and send you to a separate guide for how.

4

Our reading: Warmerly's DNS check is not a placement test

Passing SPF, DKIM and DMARC does not show where mail lands. Instantly's Inbox Placement add-on tests placement across Gmail and Microsoft. Warmerly's own placement tests exist, but its pool-based runs are marked as limited accuracy, so do not treat a DNS pass as a deliverability result.

Who it suits

Pick the one that fits.

Warmerly

Warmerly is the better fit if

  • You want DNS checked automatically across many mailboxes and domains without remembering to press a button.
  • You want each problem explained with a fix, and the exact SPF or DMARC record where we can build it.
  • You want an alert when a record breaks or stays broken, and the alert to clear itself once it is fixed.
  • You want free DMARC report collection for your sending domains.

Instantly is the better fit if

  • A one-off check of MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC at setup is enough for you.
  • You want authentication, blacklists, content scoring and inbox-versus-spam testing in one Inbox Placement report, and will pay for the add-on.
  • You are on Hyper Growth or above and want the Deliverability AI Agent to review DNS alongside bounce rates and warm-up scores.
  • You buy pre-configured domains and mailboxes from Instantly, where Instantly sets the DNS records for you.
Questions
How often does Warmerly check SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

By default every six hours for each mailbox that is not dead or paused, and the mailbox's Health tab has a Re-check now option.

Does Warmerly tell me what record to add?

Every finding includes a fix in words. For SPF (Google and Microsoft mailboxes) and DMARC the card can also show the record to copy. For DKIM it points you to your provider, because the value comes from them.

What does Instantly's Test domain setup do?

It is a button on the Email Accounts dashboard that verifies your MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are configured correctly. Instantly's pre-launch checklist lists it as the first step before launching a campaign.

What does Instantly's Inbox Placement add-on add?

Tests of inbox versus spam across Gmail and Microsoft, content spam-trigger analysis, a check of authentication protocols, and monitoring of IPs and domains against 94 blacklists. It costs $47 a month for one-time tests or $97 a month for automated recurring tests, per Instantly's plans overview.

Will Warmerly alert me if DMARC is only p=none?

No. p=none is shown as an advisory with advice to tighten it later, but advisories never raise alerts. Alerts are for hard failures such as a missing or broken record.
