SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks

One row, in depth: what each tool does, the verified numbers, and who each suits.

Mailivery details read from its pricing page, home page, product pages and API page on 21 October 2026.

The short answer

SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks, in one look.

Warmerly checks SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX every six hours per mailbox, with a written fix for each finding. Mailivery's monitoring pages do not mention SPF, DKIM or DMARC checks; another page says its health score is based on DNS setup, domain age and blacklist monitoring. Last checked 22 October 2026.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

Scheduled record checks per mailbox with quality tests, not only presence, a written fix for each finding, and a stated rule that advisories never alarm. DMARC reports can be collected for free.

01

Checked every six hours

The records sweep runs every six hours across every mailbox that is not dead or paused. A Re-check now option is on the mailbox Health tab.

02

A written fix for each finding

Each finding has a title, an explanation and a fix. SPF is checked for the 10-lookup limit, DKIM for key length and test mode, DMARC for policy and reporting address.

03

Unknown is never green

A check that could not run is shown as unknown, not as fine.

04

Free DMARC report collection

Point your DMARC reporting address at a Warmerly address to see who sends as your domain and whether they pass, for up to 10 domains per workspace. Email digests and alerts for these reports are not built.

05

Quality as well as presence

SPF is checked for its qualifier, for the 10 lookup limit counted through includes and redirects, and for terms that make the record unreadable. DKIM is checked for key length and test mode, and DMARC for policy, subdomain policy, percentage and a reporting address. MX is checked because a domain that cannot receive mail is a spam signal.

06

Short keys are named

A DKIM key of 1024 bits or less is reported as short by current standards, with the fix to ask the provider for a 2048 bit key.

07

The record to publish

Under a failing SPF or DMARC chip the app shows the exact record to add, with a copy button. SPF is suggested only for Google and Microsoft mailboxes and is merged into the record already published, because a domain may have only one.

08

Three severities

Findings are fail, warn or info. Only fail counts toward the overall verdict, one hard failure is amber and two or more is red, so a working domain with a monitor-only DMARC policy is not painted as broken.

09

Advisories do not alert

The sweep sends an alert only for a hard failure, never for a warning, so owners are not mailed about things that did not change and are not broken.

10

Shared mail domains are handled

On gmail.com and outlook.com the records belong to the provider, so the app shows a Connected, nothing to set up card instead of five failing chips.

11

DMARC reports are read, not just checked

The reports job runs every 30 minutes, unpacks zip, gzip and XML reports up to 10 MB, keeps them 90 days and stores only aggregate data, never message content.

How Mailivery does it

Mailivery, in detail.

DNS appears in two places on its site: a health score that is said to use DNS setup, and an authentication section in the placement report. No page lists the records it reads or how often.

01

Mailbox health score

Its comparison page says the score is based on DNS setup, domain age and blacklist monitoring.

mailivery.io/competitor-comparison · read 21 October 2026

04

Authentication in the test report

The placement page says the test validates every SPF, DKIM and DMARC record, checks alignment and shows what is misconfigured with step by step fix instructions.

mailivery.io/inbox-placement-test · read 22 October 2026

05

A concrete example fix

The page's own example is a DKIM record missing for a subdomain, with the instruction to add a TXT record with a named selector. It is an illustration.

mailivery.io/inbox-placement-test · read 22 October 2026

06

A test, not a schedule

The authentication check is described as part of a placement test, and its pages describe recurring scheduled tests. They do not describe a separate record monitor.

07

Health score inputs

The comparison page describes the mailbox health score as based on DNS setup, domain age and blacklist monitoring.

08

What the test says it finds

The page lists SPF, DKIM and DMARC misconfigurations as things that silently kill deliverability.

09

Gmail connection note

Its how-it-works FAQ says Google mailboxes need an app password for connection, which is a setup step rather than a record check.

What Mailivery does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • How often records are checked
  • Which records are checked and what the fix instructions say
  • Any DMARC report collection
  • A continuous or scheduled record monitor outside placement tests
  • Whether DKIM key length or SPF lookup counts are checked
  • Whether a failing record raises an alert

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

The score is not the same as a check

A health score that mentions DNS is not a statement that SPF, DKIM and DMARC are each checked on a schedule.

2

Warmerly shows the fix

Each finding names the record to change.

3

Ten lookups in practice

An SPF record that includes five email tools, each needing two more lookups, reaches 10 on includes alone, which is why Warmerly counts through includes. Adding an eleventh makes receivers ignore SPF. The count is on the finding, so you see it before the sixth tool breaks it.

4

Every six hours, four times a day

A sweep every six hours runs four times in 24 hours, so a record you break at 09:00 is flagged by 15:00 at the latest, and Re-check now closes the gap after you fix it. Mailivery's pages describe no such schedule, so a break found only by a test could wait for the next test.

5

Reading authentication through a test

If you only want to read the authentication section, you run a placement test to get it, and Starter lists 10 tests. Warmerly's sweep reads the records without a test and without a credit.

6

Provider-managed domains

On a Gmail or Outlook address neither tool can fix the records. Warmerly says so on the card instead of showing failures.

Who it suits

Pick the one that fits.

Warmerly

Warmerly is the better fit if

  • You want records checked on a published schedule
  • You want the exact fix written out
  • You want SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX checked on a schedule without running a test
  • You want the SPF lookup count and DKIM key length checked
  • You want to collect DMARC aggregate reports without a separate tool
Mailivery

Mailivery is the better fit if

  • You want authentication in a placement report
  • You want a single health score across DNS, age and blacklists
  • You want authentication read inside a deliverability test
  • You want content, blacklist and DNS findings in one report
  • You want a single health score that mentions domain age

What does Warmerly check on SPF?

The all qualifier, the 10 lookup limit through includes and redirects, and whether each address term is valid.

What happens if my DKIM key is short?

A key of 1024 bits or less is reported as short, and the fix is to ask your provider for a 2048 bit key.

Where does Mailivery check my DNS records?

Its placement test page says it validates SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and shows what to fix. It does not describe a separate monitor.
