Blacklist monitoring

One row, in depth: what each tool does, the verified numbers, and who each suits.

Mailivery details read from its pricing page, home page, product pages and API page on 21 October 2026.

Warmerly

16 blocklist registries checked, 6 for domains and 10 for IPs.

Mailivery

70+ blacklists for domains and IPs, with alerts on the platform and by email.

The short answer

Blacklist monitoring, in one look.

Warmerly checks 16 named registries, 6 for domains and 10 for IPs, while Mailivery monitors 70+ blacklists, so Mailivery's number is larger. Mailivery monitors 70+ blacklists for domains and IPs, alerts you on the platform and by email, and says it tells you when you are off a list. Warmerly checks 16 named registries, 6 for domains and 10 for IPs, and never shows an unanswered check as green. Mailivery's number is larger, and its own pages give two figures for it. Last checked 22 October 2026.

How Warmerly does it

Warmerly, in detail.

Sixteen registries, named, queried by plain DNS, with refusals never read as listings and a partial answer shown as partial. The list is chosen, not maximised, and the reasons for what is left out are written down.

01

Domain registries

Six: Spamhaus DBL, SURBL, URIBL, NordSpam DBL, Spam Eating Monkey URI and s5h.

02

IP registries

Ten: Spamhaus ZEN, SpamCop, Barracuda, PSBL, Mailspike, NordSpam, Spam Eating Monkey, Lashback UBL, DroneBL and GBUdb Truncate.

03

Unknown is never green

If a registry cannot be queried the result is unknown, and it outranks a warning in the overall verdict.

04

A free checker

The free blacklist checker tool on warmerly.com looks a domain up without an account.

05

A refusal is not a listing

Several registries answer a refused query with an address inside the same range used for real listings. Each zone classifies its own codes, anything unrecognised is an error, and an error is never reported as listed.

06

Coverage is stated

Clean on 13 lists and clean on the 3 that answered while 10 refused are different results. The check stores how many zones were queried and how many errored, and a partial answer shows amber with the count.

07

Three left out on purpose

SORBS, which shut down in 2024, UCEPROTECT, which charges to delist, and Invaluement, which is subscription only, are excluded, and the reasons are in the code header.

08

Policy lists are not alarms

Spamhaus PBL lists whole consumer ranges whether or not they ever sent mail. Those listings show in their own muted section and are never alerted.

09

What the IP check measures

It resolves the mailbox's SMTP submission host. For a large provider that is not the sending pool, so provider hosts are skipped and the app says your mail server's IP, not your sending IP.

10

Sweep and alerts

A sweep runs every 6 hours, a standing alert is withdrawn when a listing clears, and one alert goes to each owner per listed domain, not one per mailbox.

11

The resolver is tested first

Before trusting a sweep it queries a Spamhaus address that is always listed and requires the listed answer, so a broken resolver cannot report every customer clean or listed.

How Mailivery does it

Mailivery, in detail.

A named product on its own page, with a plan limit on monitors, alerts on the platform and by email, and a delisting follow-up. It is a bigger count with less written about method.

03

Recommendations

It gives actionable recommendations to resolve a listing. The page does not say it submits delisting for you.

04

Monitors by plan

The pricing table lists 2 blacklist monitors on Starter, 10 on Professional and 50 on Business.

05

Four steps stated

You add domains and IPs, it checks them regularly, you are alerted on the platform and by email report when one is listed, and you follow its recommendations. It says it will inform you when you are off a list.

mailivery.io/blacklist-monitoring · read 22 October 2026

06

The reason it gives

The page says blacklists can cut open rates by up to 50 per cent. It is a claim without a source on the page.

mailivery.io/blacklist-monitoring · read 22 October 2026

07

Part of the placement report

The placement test also checks the domain and IP against 70+ known blacklists in real time and says which list, how severe, and the delisting steps.

08

Part of the health score

The comparison page lists blacklist monitoring as an input to the mailbox health score, beside DNS setup and domain age.

09

On every plan

The blacklist page says it is included in all plans, and the warm-up page repeats 70+ blacklist monitoring as a feature of every plan.

10

Monitors rise with the plan

Starter lists 2 monitors, Professional 10 and Business 50, which is the only place a limit appears.

What Mailivery does not say

We looked, and found no statement on these. That is about its published pages only, not about the product.

  • The names of the blacklists
  • How often they are checked and how fast an alert arrives
  • Whether the monitor count means domains or IPs
  • Which of its monitors count a domain and which count an IP
  • The delay between a listing and the alert
  • Whether it submits delisting requests for you

Where the sources disagree

We report each version rather than pick one.

  • Count: its blacklist and home pages say 70+ blacklists, while its comparison page says across 100+ blacklists.
The numbers

In practice

What it means for you.

Our reading of the facts above. Not a promise, and not the only reasonable reading.

1

More lists is not always better

A bigger count covers more small lists, and some are rarely used by mailbox providers. The big ones, such as Spamhaus, are in both.

2

Check what you will act on

The useful part is the alert and the fix, not the count.

3

Reading 70 against 16

70 is 54 more than 16, but the 16 are named and tested against refusals, and Mailivery names none of its 70. A count only helps when you can tell which lists matter to your mail, so ask for the list before you use the number to choose.

4

How many monitors you need

At Mailivery a single domain and one sending IP take 2 monitors if each counts as one. That is the whole of Starter. A team with 8 domains needs 8 or 16 depending on how its monitors are counted, which is why the unanswered question matters. Professional's 10 covers 8 domains if only domains count and not if IPs do too.

5

Time to notice a listing

A sweep every 6 hours means a listing is noticed within 6 hours of a check, at worst. Mailivery says alerts are instant on its blacklist page. Its warm-up page and placement page do not give a check frequency, so we cannot compare the two.

6

What to do on an alert

In both tools the fix is outside the tool: you ask the registry to delist, after you fix the cause. Mailivery says it gives steps and Warmerly's finding names the list.

Who it suits

Pick the one that fits.

Warmerly

Warmerly is the better fit if

  • You want the registries named and the unknown state honest
  • You want blocklist checks inside the same app as warmup
  • You want to know which registries were checked and which refused
  • You want every listing found within a published sweep interval
  • You do not want a plan limit on monitors
Mailivery

Mailivery is the better fit if

  • You want the larger stated list count
  • You want an alert when you are delisted
  • You want the larger stated number of lists
  • You want a notice when a listing clears
  • You want blacklist checks in the placement report and the health score
