# What Is BIMI, and Does Cold Email Need It? The record, what it needs, and why most cold email senders can skip it for now. BIMI, Brand Indicators for Message Identification, lets a receiving inbox show your logo next to your emails. It needs DMARC at an enforcing policy and an SVG logo, and the biggest inboxes also ask for a certificate that proves you own the mark. It does not improve whether mail reaches the inbox, so most cold email senders can skip it for now. > **How this was checked**: The record format and the DMARC prerequisite come from the BIMI Group's specification. Each mailbox provider sets its own certificate and display rules and they change, so check the receiver's current rules before you spend money. We quote no costs. We make no claim about the effect of a logo on replies, because we have no data. ## What the record looks like BIMI is a TXT record at default._bimi.yourdomain with a value such as v=BIMI1; l=https://example.com/logo.svg; a=https://example.com/mark.pem. The l tag is the address of your SVG logo, and the a tag is the address of the certificate, when one is required. ## What you need before it works - DMARC at p=quarantine or p=reject, with the policy applied to all mail. p=none is not enough. - SPF and DKIM passing and aligned. - A logo in the SVG profile the specification asks for, hosted over HTTPS. - At the largest providers, a certificate that proves you own the mark. Providers differ on which they accept. ## Should a cold email sender bother? For most, not yet. BIMI is a branding feature. It does not change spam filtering, and it only pays off after the basics are done: authentication, a clean list and warmed mailboxes. It also asks for DMARC enforcement, which cold email domains often leave at p=none. If you already send high-volume mail from a domain with a registered trademark, it may be worth a look later. For a new sending domain, spend the time on warmup and list quality first. **Do the basics first** - [Free DMARC checker](https://warmerly.com/dmarc-checker) - [DMARC policy for cold email](https://warmerly.com/blog/dmarc-policy-none-quarantine-reject-cold-email) - [SPF, DKIM and DMARC for cold email](https://warmerly.com/blog/spf-dkim-dmarc-cold-email) --- Source: https://warmerly.com/blog/what-is-bimi-and-does-cold-email-need-it Full content index: https://warmerly.com/llms-full.txt Site index: https://warmerly.com/llms.txt
